HTML blockquote tag

The HTML
tag is used for indicating long quotations (i.e. quotations that span multiple lines).

Browsers generally render blockquote text as an indented paragraph.

The basic tag is written like this

, with the actual quote between the opening and closing tags. You can also use the cite attribute to provide a URL pointing to the source of the quote.

If you have a short quote that simply needs to be displayed within a normal (non-quoted) paragraph, use the tag. Most browsers surround text with quotation marks.
